Job description
Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter adversaries. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China — from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion.
About the role:
You will be an engineer on the team building systems to collect hard-to-access data. This data forms the foundation of the company's competitive advantage. Your role is to elevate and extend existing collection capabilities — strengthening core engines, improving resilience in adversarial environments, and expanding how data is exposed through interfaces for agents and other engineering teams.
This role requires deep experience with browser automation, anti-bot defenses, fingerprinting and signature mitigation, distributed scraping architectures, and infrastructure designed for sensitive or misattributed environments.
What you'll do:
- Master our data collection systems and differentiators
- Understand user missions, challenges, and expectations
- Shape collection approach to keep high-value data flowing against sophisticated defensive systems
- Build and maintain stable, scalable collection systems
- Ensure tools and collected data are usable by AI agents (tool-call readiness, retrieval patterns, schemas/metadata)
You might be a fit if you:
- Have strong back-end experience and understanding of distributed systems (TypeScript/Python preferred)
- Understand how anti-abuse, bot detection, fraud, or traffic integrity systems analyze traffic at scale
- Are data driven with an eye for instrumentation and monitoring
- Can reason about how small deviations in protocol behavior propagate into anomaly scores
- Are technically diverse and can adapt your tool stack quickly
- Active TS/SCI Clearance is a plus
Benefits: Health/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, 401(k) match, lifestyle stipends, fully paid parental leave
