Software Engineer (Full-Stack) (Shopify)

Flare is the number one delivery date platform for Shopify Plus brands globally, powering the delivery experience at checkout for over 700 merchants. We've grown 10x in revenue since Q1 2025, processing over $100M in orders annually.

You'd be the third person in the company and the first engineering hire to join the founding team.

What you'll work on:

The decision engine:
At the core of Flare is a system that takes postcode, product, carrier, cut-off time, cart, and customer location and returns the right delivery options to shoppers. You'll expand the rules and conditions layer, add new carrier and fulfilment integrations, and push the performance envelope as request volume grows.

Checkout and customer experience:
Build the frontend layer that takes the output of our decision engine and turns it into a fast, polished experience. The Shopify checkout is one of the most constrained and scrutinised environments in eCommerce.

AI-assisted onboarding:
Work on using AI to make setup as frictionless as possible, including building agents that can complete configuration autonomously.

Scale and reliability:
Building toward $1bn in orders processed. Taking what exists and making it handle an order of magnitude more load via serverless, microservices, or another strategy.

Requirements:
- At least 3 years of strong full-stack experience
- Real experience with Shopify APIs (not theme development), eCommerce, logistics, or complex rule-based backend systems
- Performance-focused: know what it means to build a system that responds in milliseconds
- Production-minded: failure cases, edge cases, 3am incidents for merchants processing thousands of orders
- Ships fast without being reckless
- Uses AI tooling (Cursor, Claude Code) as a natural part of how you work

Tech Stack: TypeScript, React (Preact), Remix, Node.js, GraphQL, AWS (ECS/EC2, DynamoDB), Shopify APIs and Webhooks

Salary: $36,000 - $48,000 USD
