Job description

Canonical is seeking a Cloud Field Engineering Manager to lead a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. Canonical works across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu itself to virtualization and private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions such as MLOps platforms, data platforms, and more. The Field Engineering team serves as cloud solutions architects working directly with customers, designing private and public cloud solutions. The portfolio includes on-premise cloud solutions such as OpenStack, MicroCloud, and Ceph, and solutions deployable on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. As a Cloud Field Engineering Manager, you are responsible for line management and career guidance of field engineers, representing your team technically, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers. You are also expected to actively participate in technical presales to help the department achieve quarterly goals. Responsibilities include leading and developing a team of field engineers ranging from graduate to senior in the areas of presales and professional services, solving customer problems by promoting technologies and being a trusted advisor, coaching and mentoring engineers and offering career development feedback, identifying and measuring team health indicators, implementing disciplined engineering processes, and planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects. Requirements include knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph, practical knowledge of Linux and networking, experience in technical presales, and experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers.
