Job description

Canonical is seeking a Solution Architecture Manager to run a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. Canonical works across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings from Ubuntu itself to virtualization and private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions such as MLOps platforms and data platforms. The Field Engineering team serves as cloud solutions architects working directly with customers, designing private and public cloud solutions. The portfolio includes on-premise cloud solutions such as OpenStack, MicroCloud, and Ceph, and solutions deployable on-premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Canonical believes Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers themselves who feel completely at home troubleshooting technical issues and having technical presales conversations with customers. Responsibilities include leading and developing a team of field engineers from graduate to senior level in presales and professional services, solving customer problems by being a trusted advisor, coaching and mentoring engineers, identifying and measuring team health indicators, implementing disciplined engineering processes, representing the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers, and planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects. Requirements include knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph, practical knowledge of Linux and networking, experience in technical presales, and experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers.
